C.I.D.E.R. took possession of the two smaller Dodge Grand Caravan vans right at the end of last year. They are equipped with a wheelchair ramp and all the necessary tie-downs for transporting a non-ambulatory client. They were immediately put into service and have shown that they, along with the Chevrolet HHR, will end up saving C.I.D.E.R. hundreds (if not thousands) of gallons of gasoline over their life. The following chart shows the percent of mileage done by each vehicle in our fleet during a month.
You can see that we added the HHR to our fleet in January of 2008. During the first year of its use the percent of total miles put on that vehicle rose to about 20%. It increase to almost 30% by the end of 2009. The two Dodge vehicles were added in January of 2010. Together, with the HHR, those three vehicles now account for more than 55% of the total miles per month. Many of the trips C.I.D.E.R. does are for one client in a wheelchair. These can be accomplished more easily and more economically in one of the new Dodges.
