The C.I.D.E.R. Community would like to extend our best wishes to Jim on his recent retirement from C.I.D.E.R.  Jim formally retired in July 2015.  As Keynote Speaker at the Annual Membership Dinner on October 9th, Jim gave a wonderful talk and we gained some insight into the great person that he is.

Thank you for your years of service as an employee of C.I.D.E.R. and contributing your knowledge to the organization.

Remember to “try ” to slow down a little and not work too hard.  We wish you much happiness in you new adventures in retirement.  (We do know where you live when we need to call on you)!

Best regards from your fellow employees, volunteers and friends in the Islands !

53rd Annual Islands Antique Show and Sale

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

C.I.D.E.R. is sponsoring the Islands Antique Show and Sale again this year.  It will take place at the Folsom Educational Center, 75 South Street, South Hero. The show and sale will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday, July 10th and 10:00 AM to 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 11th.

If you like antiques but haven’t filled your house yet come to the sale and fill the trunk of your car. Or, in the style of Antiques Roadshow,2015 Antique Show Poster if you have old things laying around and want to know what they’re worth bring up to three for an appraisal at $5.00 per item (appraisals on Saturday only from 10:00 AM to Noon). If you just want to browse and see what’s what – come and enjoy talking to 20 antique dealers and have lunch provided by the Folsom PTO. The admission is $3.00, and if you buy an admission on Friday you get in for free on Saturday.  CIDER Bowl

As a special incentive to come to the antique show Jim Holzschuh (C.I.D.E.R. Program Coordinator) has provided a hand-made wood turned bowl for a raffle that weekend.  Proceeds from admissions and the raffle will help C.I.D.E.R. continue to support the elders and persons with disabilities in Grand Isle County.

2015 Love Your Neighbors Annual Fund Drive

Monday, January 26th, 2015

C.I.D.E.R.’s 2015 Annual Fund Drive kicks off on February 14th. The tag-line for this Fund Drive is “Love Your Neighbors”.

Grand Isle County is a beautiful and special place to live, but for our rapidly growing population of elders it also presents some significant challenges to their ability to “age in place” with independence and dignity. Access to essential resources and services is limited and often requires a long ride to Burlington, St. Albans, and other locations off-island. Opportunities to enjoy social interaction with others, especially peers, can be difficult to find and result in feelings of social isolation.

Islanders recognized these challenges many years ago and created C.I.D.E.R as the Grand Isle County based and supported organization designed to help their older friends and neighbors continue living in their own homes and communities. Your tax deductible gift to C.I.D.E.R. supports door-to-door transportation, congregate and home delivered meals, exercise and wellness activities, home accessibility projects, socialization opportunities, and the effort to develop an ”on island” housing-with-services option for our frail elders.
