NEIGHBOR MEALS

The C.I.D.E.R. Community Meal Site known as “The Neighbors” has been serving meals since January 1981, long before C.I.D.E.R. was incorporated!  C.I.D.E.R. chef Kelly Robinson and her team of volunteers provide hot, tasty, and nutritious “home-cooked”meals to residents (and guests) of Grand Isle County every Monday and Thursday at 12:30pm.  We also schedule a larger supper most months, usually on the third Wednesday at 5pm. This program is designed to be supplemental and social.  Hot lunches are also delivered by C.I.D.E.R. volunteers to seniors who have a difficult time getting and cooking meals at home (also Mondays and Thursdays).

The Neighbors meal site is located in Reader Hall of the Congregational Church of South Hero located on South Street. All persons over 60 are eligible to receive a meal for the suggested donation of $3.00. (For persons under 60 the suggested donation is $4.00.) The site has a handicapped access entrance. Transportation is available county-wide to all meals on the C.I.D.E.R. buses.

Provisions are made for diabetics and persons with special diets due to dietary restrictions. Special meals are planned for holidays and other special occasions.  Music, activities, and presentations are also often on the menu.  Support for this program comes from United Way of Northwest Vermont, participant donations, and general fund-raising.
