2010 GOVERNOR’S AWARD for OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE


Governors Award 2010

Champlain Islanders Developing Essential Resources, Inc. (C.I.D.E.R.) was selected by the Vermont Commission on National and Community Service to receive its 2010 Governor’s Award for Outstanding Community Service. This was presented to Richard Ernst and Odessa Hopkins by Governor James H. Douglas and members of the Commission on Saturday, April 10th.

Volunteer Richard Ernst provides rides for island residents to doctor’s appointments using his own vehicle.  During 2009 he provided 64 one-way rides and racked up 2495 C.I.D.E.R. miles and 102 donated hours.  Odessa Hopkins is the Secretary of the C.I.D.E.R. Board of Directors, has volunteered by entering address data into the mailing database and also provides the office staff scrumptious cookies and cake from time to time.  C.I.D.E.R. was nominated for this award by Andrea Beaderstadt of GMTA in St. Albans.
