HomeShare Vermont

HomeShare Vermont provides matching services for homesharing and caregiving. HomeShare Vermont assists elders and persons with disabilities to live independently in their own homes by bringing them together with persons who seek affordable housing and/or caregiving opportunities. HomeShare Vermont provides a comprehensive screening and matching service and our services are available to anyone in Chittenden and Grand Isle County, Vermont.


The Champlain Valley Agency on Aging, Inc.

The Champlain Valley Agengy on Aging (CVAA) is a private, non-profit, United Way organization. We support people 60 and older in their efforts to remain active, healthy, financially secure, and in control of their own lives. CVAA connects older people with the services they need to live independently for as long as possible.


The State of Vermont Department of Aging and Independent Living (DAIL)

DAIL assists older persons, children and adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible.


Lake Champlain Housing Development Corporation

Lake Champlain Housing Development Corporation (LCHDC)is a non-profit organization that is devoted to the development, restoration and preservation of affordable rental housing and apartments within Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties of Vermont. A sister organization, Lake Champlain Housing Ventures (LCHV), provides financially responsible property management and maintenance services for affordable rental housing and apartments within Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties of Vermont.


Franklin / Grand Isle United Way

The Franklin-Grand Isle United Way is one of 1400 United Ways in the United States. Celebrating our 24th year of service, we are an independent, nonprofit organization overseen by a local volunteer board of directors. We are the largest non-governmental fundraiser for human services in our community. Our Mission The Franklin-Grand Isle United Way’s mission is to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.


Lake Champlain Housing - Home Ownership Info

Here's how they can help you:

  • Home Buyer Education - We help you determine if homeownership is right for you, help you through the process of buying a home step by step, and provide post-purchase support. Our Orientations are offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. All services are explained at that meeting. If you decide to work with us, you complete a confidential personal profile. There is a small fee for a credit report and workshop materials. Next you attend one of our monthly Home Buyer Workshops. We work together on your home buying plan. From there you can take advantage of all our other services and programs listed below.
  • Credit and Budget Counseling - If you need to rebuild your credit or would like guidance on budgeting toward buying a home, we offer private counseling.
  • Financial Assistance - We help you find the most affordable home financing options, which may include help with down payment and closing costs. Our staff helps you contact the lender you choose and works with you every step of the way.
  • Special Lender Programs - We guide you to the resources that help you buy the most home for your money.
  • Home Maintenance Education- Make the most of your home and keep it in great shape by sitting in on our home maintenance/repair and lawn and garden care workshops led by experts in the field.
  • Home Rehab Planning and Loans - We work with you to make a post inspection rehab plan to ensure you have the resources to fix any problems in your new home.
  • Delinquency Intervention - If you get behind in your mortgage payments, we work with you to get you back on track and in good standing.


How to Take Medicines Safely

Many older Americans owe their health in part to new and improved medicines. But using them may be risky, especially when several medications are used at once. To help avoid risk, older adults can now turn to a new website for helpful information about how to take medicines safely and manage them wisely. The new US Government website, www,NIHSeniorHealth.gov, offers information about how medicines act in the body, how to take medicines safely, and what research there is on new medications.

The Mission of CVOEO is to address fundamental issues of economic, social, and racial justice and to work with low-income people to achieve economic independence.

Franklin / Grand Isle County Community Action

FGICA provides a variety of free services to help low-income residents of the two counties including assistance with housing, fuel, food, landlord/tenant issues, food stamp applications, nutrition education, budget information and taxes.

Programs specific to FGICA include:

  • “Next Step”, which provides regular help to clients interested in long-term problem solving and decision-making. Creating or perfecting a family budget is one of the main ways Next Step assists clients. In addition, clients receive help utilizing community resources such as Adult Basic Education and services through the Vermont Department of Employment and Training.
  • The Garden Project is a partnership with the Vermont Department of Corrections in which residents of the Northwest State Correctional Facility volunteer to farm six acres of facility land. The residents benefit from the educational lessons regarding garden management provided through the Correctional Facilities educational programs, and enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community. The several thousand pounds of organic vegetables grown each year are shared between the facility kitchen and the FGICA Emergency Food Shelf.
  • The Child & Adult Care Food Program is intended to help registered/licensed Day Care Homes and Legally Exempt Day Care Providers provide nutritious meals for the children in their day care. FGICA staff assists an average of 95 providers feed between 800 and 900 children breakfast/snack, lunch and dinner. Working parents can feel secure knowing their children are enjoying healthy eating habits.
